Roberta Fineberg
Roberta Fineberg starts with a photograph and paints into it. In the Books series she builds the surface up until the image becomes an object.
She began in Paris in the 1980s as an editorial photographer, published in Le Monde and Paris Match. Her portraits of women writers are in the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Bibliothèque Marguerite Durand. Her photograph Double Helix was in Sotheby's Contemporary Discoveries auction in 2022.
Back to School, her exhibition with Collective Z on Artsy, runs through October 24, 2026.
